The collection, comprising correspondence, files, minutes, photographs, reports, papers and items of realia, and relates mainly to his time as chairman of the Library Board of Western Australia, with the establishment of the Board, inclusion of Public Library of Western Australia and entry into AACOBS; then later the appointment of a successor to F.A. Sharr and the planning of the Perth Cultural Centre and new State Library Building (called the Alexander Library Building in his honour).
